Did Jennifer Lawrence Chop Locks To Annoy 'Catching Fire' Director?

Actress explains her new pixie cut during Google+ Hangout.

Let the Hairdo Games begin!

Actress Jennifer Lawrence debuted a freshly shorn pixie cut on Wednesday via a photo posted to her official Facebook page.

"Headed up north for #GLOBALFANDAY with The Hunger Games Catching Fire cast. Follow this page all day for updates!" she wrote.

Later, during a Google+ Hangout with co-stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and director Francis Lawrence, the "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" star explained the impetus for her dramatic cut.

"I just did it to make Francis mad," she joked. "I did it just to annoy him."

A clearly unperturbed Francis quickly demurred before Jennifer continued: "No, it was actually at that awkward length," she said. "The first time I cut it to here [gestures to shoulders], he totally thought it was me giving him the finger. It was not. It's just fried from being dyed so much."

To wit, the 23-year-old has been alternating between her natural blonde locks and a darker brunette hue to portray District 12 tribute Katniss Everdeen in the dystopian drama. And that previous haircut she referenced? That was back in April, when she showed up at the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards flaunting a long, wavy bob.

This new cropped 'do will likely serve Lawrence well over the next few (very busy) months. In addition to her promotional duties for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (which opens November 22), production on the franchise's final two installments — "Mockingjay - Part 1" and "Mockingjay - Part 2" — is in full swing, while Lawrence's next film, "American Hustle," will hit theaters on December 18.
