Everyone Thought Drake Was Going To Propose To Rihanna At The VMAs

Though he did steal a kiss (sorta)

The final award of the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards was the coveted Video Vanguard Award. After battling "traffic," Drake proudly presented the award to "someone [he's] been in love with since [he] was 22 years old:" Rihanna.

But before he handed the "Diamonds" singer her Moonman, he gave a super sweet, totally aww-worthy speech about his bae. Between his speech and his sexy tux, everyone thought he was about to propose. He didn't, FYI, but he did try to give her a kiss on the mouth, and she, um, opted for the cheek instead.

Of course, fans were disappointed in the lame kiss, but still managed to find the humor in it.

At least we'll always have this photo to remember. (Even if Drake does look like Leonardo DiCaprio screaming "I'm king of the world!" in Titanic.)
