Daniel Craig Thinks 'Bond 24' Is Coming Sooner Than Later

'That was too long last time, although I quite enjoyed the gap,' he tells MTV News of the wait for 'Skyfall.'

Playing 007 has never been just another job for Daniel Craig. If you pay attention to how Craig speaks about his Bond films, it's always clear that he is invested in not only their financial success, but also their quality — something not every A-list actor in a blockbuster franchise has in common with him.

When it came to "Skyfall," Craig put his support behind director Sam Mendes, and while the Academy Award winner has never made an action movie, Craig believed in him from their work on "Road to Perdition."

The results will speak for themselves when "Skyfall" opens in the U.S. on November 9, but when MTV News sat down with Craig, we asked how much his voice is heard when it comes to planning new Bond films and when "Bond 24" will begin to roll.

While Craig said he couldn't be completely sure that his opinion matters, he does feel that some degree of involvement is necessary for him. "I like to think [I have input]. Certainly, [the producers] let me talk; whether they listen to me, I don't know," Craig said. "The truth of it is that Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, the producers, they allow me to get involved, and it means so much to me. I always said to them when I did 'Casino Royale,' 'I don't care about many things, but if you allowed me to be involved, I can pretend to be James Bond.' "

"Skyfall" is the first Bond movie in four years, which is twice the usual time between entries. With Craig already signed up for at least two more films, does this mean "Bond 24" will begin production sooner rather than later? Craig won't say, but he doesn't see why not.

"Ask the producers. I don't know," Craig said. "I think they'd like to [speed up the timetable], and I think that would be the plan. That was too long last time, although I quite enjoyed the gap, but it's too long. As long as we've got the script and we're ready to go, there's no reason why we can't start shooting."
