It's okay to feel things, and be who you are about them. It's also okay to fall deeply, madly in love with our exclusive clip from "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," which debuted Tuesday (September 18) during our MTV First with stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller.
In the clip, high school freshman and social outcast Charlie (Lerman) is engaged in an all-too-rare social situation with two potential new friends, Patrick (Miller) and Sam (Watson). The two of them are seniors, just a few short months away from leaving the drama of high school behind them for good. Naturally, they're beginning to think about their futures. And since it's never too early to know what you want to do with your life, Sam asks Charlie if he has his post-high school plan already laid out.
"My Aunt Helen said I should be a writer," he replies sheepishly, "but I don't know what I'd write about."
"You could write about us," Sam helpfully offers, prompting Patrick to chime in, "Yeah! Call it 'Slut and the Falcon,' make us solve crime!"
Patrick and Sam's enthusiastic feedback leaves Charlie pondering his new friends-in-the-making. "You seem really happy together," he observes. "How long have you been boyfriend and girlfriend?"
The question earns a huge laugh from the duo across the table. "He's not my boyfriend," Sam explains. "He's my step-brother. My mom finally left my worthless dad and met his nice dad when we moved here."
"But she's not bitter, make no mistake," Patrick cuts in.
"Absolutely not," Sam replies, tongue firmly in cheek.
Written and directed by author of the novel Stephen Chbosky, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" opens in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on September 21 and expands to other cities on September 28.
