Veteran rapper [artist id="9621"]Ice-T[/artist] was arrested and taken into custody by New York Police Department officials on Tuesday morning (July 20) after he was spotted driving without a seat belt and authorities later discovered his driver's license was suspended.

According to a spokesman for the NYPD, the rapper was arrested on 40th Street and 11th Avenue in Manhattan at approximately 9 a.m. this morning.

An officer pulled over Ice-T (real name: Tracy Marrow) for a routine stop after noticing the entertainer driving without a seat belt. A check of the "Law & Order: SVU" star's driving records showed his license was suspended.

He was then taken into to custody at the 10th Precinct, where he's expected to be issued a desk ticket and return to make a court appearance at a later date, an NYPD spokesman told MTV News.

A representative for the rapper was not available for comment at press time.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ice-T tweeted that he would be taking wife Coco's dog to have surgery after the animal injured its knee two weeks ago.

"Up early," he wrote. "@cutespartacus [Coco's dog's Twitter handle] has to get knee surgery today. It's a simple operation that [is] common for bulldogs. Still sucks. Wish him luck..."

On Tuesday afternoon, Coco confirmed on Twitter that her husband had been arrested and released.

"Yes, Ice was arrested this morning but we don't know what the hell for! He's been released," she wrote. "We got pulled over for not wearing seat belts."
