Miley Cyrus Looks To Join Demi Moore In 'LOL: Laughing Out Loud' Remake

Disney star is considering a role in the remake of the French mother-daughter comedy.

[artist id="2408193"]Miley Cyrus[/artist] might just have found her next big-screen project in "LOL: Laughing Out Loud." According to a report in Variety, the 17-year-old Disney star is in talks to join the English-language remake of the French original, with [movieperson id="91412"]Demi Moore[/movieperson] likely to play her mother.

The film will follow Cyrus as a 15-year-old who is cast off by her boyfriend and decides to pursue his best friend. Meanwhile, the teen's 40-year-old mother (the 47-year-old Moore) is divorced and finding it difficult to restart her life as a single woman struggling to maintain a civil relationship with her daughter.

The original "LOL," starring Sophie Marceau, hit theaters in 2008 and went on to gross over $20 million, according to Variety. Lisa Azuelos, who wrote and directed the original, will also write and direct the new version.

With Cyrus just beginning production on the fourth and final season of "Hannah Montana," the move to "LOL" would signal yet another incremental step away from the Disney universe for the teen star. In April, in what is perhaps her most mature role to date, Cyrus will star in the drama "The Last Song" opposite newcomer Liam Hemsworth. She also has a cameo in the upcoming "Sex and the City" sequel, due out in May.

Cyrus has also been verbally expressing a more adult worldview recently, one that is beginning to be evident in her career decisions as well. "My job is to be a role model, and that's what I want to do, but my job isn't to be a parent," she says in the February issue of Harper's Bazaar. "My job isn't to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I'm still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That's just life."
