[artist id="500934"]Twista[/artist] wants to do all he can to help Haiti -- the Chicago rapper is hoping to put together his own benefit show and dropped a freestyle about the tragedy last week to raise awareness.

"Woke this morning to the news and heard the fears and the cries," he raps over Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige's "911." "The sight of Haitian faces brought nothing but tears to my eyes/ People suffer from a tragedy of the same demeanor/ Of a natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina. Where is God when I need her?"

"When I did that, it was just like what I saw with Hurricane Katrina," Twista explained via telephone from Chicago. "What I saw in Haiti hit me just the same. Especially if you're a person that is black and you're into our African culture, when you saw these things, it hits you harder than the average person. I know Wyclef personally, I'm a fan of his music before any of this happened. He put out CDs that were completely in Haitian. I would still bump those CDs 'cause I was into the whole vibe of it. I happened to be in the studio working. It was during the week when I was putting out a different freestyle for each day of the week. Once that [tragedy] happened, it was a no-brainer, like, 'What I gotta do today?' I thought real hard and the Mary J. Blige and Wyclef '911' song came to me. I looped it up, played it for a while and thought about everything I wanted to say before I went in there. I just put something down. I thought it wasn't about lyrical skill -- just go straight in and tell them how you feel how you think people should react. That's what I did."

Twista says that in addition to just making music, he wants to contribute money to Haiti relief.

"We've made donations and contributions," Twista said. "But what I plan to do for Chicago is something similar to what Bun B did in Houston when he did the [article id="1629833"]Houston For Haiti[/article] thing. Me and [my manager] Raw, we're in the process of talking about possibly putting together in Chicago where we have artists come out ... do a performance and donate to Haiti. We did the same thing for Hurricane Katrina. Something of this magnitude, we gotta get it poppin'. I wanna lend a helping hand anyway that I can.

"Everything counts," he continued. "I been telling people that and go ahead and donate. Right now the people need money because they need resources. Let's concentrate on donating. When the time comes for you to physically jump and do something, you can do that also."
