In a statement to People, her rep said that Gellar and Prinze "welcomed their daughter Charlotte Grace Prinze on Saturday, Sept. 19. The family is over the moon."

Before announcing her [article id="1609007"]pregnancy in April, Gellar[/article] told "Access Hollywood" why she felt it was important to wait for the right time to start a family. "When we do have children, my husband and I will have such a strong foundation because we've given our relationship time to grow," she said. "I try to go into everything with an open mind, but it's much more than I thought it would be. The partnership grows to such a different level. And all my life, it was just my mom and me, us against the world; so to let someone else in and to have another partner was hard for me. Now he's my partner, my best friend, and my husband."

The 32-year-old "Buffy" star and the 33-year-old Prinze met in 1997 on the set of the teen horror flick "I Know What You Did Last Summer." They married in 2002 after dating for two years. For the couple's fifth wedding anniversary, Gellar legally changed her last name to Prinze.

Gellar most recently filmed a pilot for HBO, "The Wonderful Maladays." Prinze is making a departure from his typical comic roles to co-star as Agent Cole Ortiz in the upcoming season of "24."

Many of Gellar's "Buffy" co-stars have also been expanding their families this year. Alyson Hannigan and husband Alexis Denisof had a baby girl in March, and David Boreanaz's second child, also a girl, was born in August.
