Paula Abdul's Exit Is 'Terrible' For 'American Idol,' Fans Say

'She brought a lot of sensitivity and emotion to the kids,' one fan tells MTV News.

It seems like [artist id="1397"]Paula Abdul[/artist] will be sorely missed by "American Idol" fans now that she's leaving the show. Abdul surprised everyone when she announced that she would no longer be sitting at the judges' table alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.

"Paula was like the one in the middle who made you feel better about yourself," Megan told MTV News. "Even if you did so horrible, she always found that one positive ... and made you want to root for the person who was singing."

Other fans will also miss Paula's positivity. "I think she brought a lot of sensitivity and emotion to the kids," Courtney said. "And they have harsh critics like Simon, and she was a maternal figure."

Joanna added: "If you weren't a good singer, she could compliment you on your outfit or something. Simon never does that."

Another fan, Jim, said he's going to miss the sometimes wacky things Abdul did and said. "That's terrible," he said. "I only watch [the show] for Paula and her craziness."

Jessica agreed that Abdul is one of the main reasons fans watch the show, and she wasn't sure they'd be willing to watch it now that Abdul is leaving. "Everyone just loves Paula," she said. "And without her there, they're going to tune out."

But there were fans who won't lose sleep over her exit. "It might actually be a good thing, in the end," Sophie said.

Judy added: "I'm surprised, but then again I'm not, because when they didn't renew [her contract], I kind of thought the handwriting was on the wall."
