Did Dirty Harry Deserve Our 'Greatest Badass' Title? Stars And Fans React

'Who's more badass than Dirty Harry?' asks 'Entourage' star Kevin Connolly.

This past weekend, MTV announced the results of our [article id="1604506"]Greatest Movie Badasses of All Time[/article] poll. You've already seen what [article id="1604527"]Clint Eastwood[/article], [article id="1604665"]Ridley Scott[/article], [article id="1604667"]Sigourney Weaver[/article] and Mel Gibson had to say about their top 10 finishes, but what does the rest of the world think?

"Who's more badass than Dirty Harry?" "Entourage" star Kevin Connolly said when we told him about Harry Callahan's big win. "I have no problem with that. I sign off on Dirty Harry as the biggest badass ever, absolutely."

New "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon, however, took umbrage. "I already know the winner -- it's Billy Jack, clearly," he half-jokingly fumed, citing the iconic badass portrayed by Tom Laughlin in four violent '60s and '70s films. "Dirty Harry is pretty much a badass, yes. His delivery was good, and Clint Eastwood is just a badass. But I think Billy Jack got robbed. ... He fought off a whole biker gang! Billy Jack's pretty badass. In fact, I'm working on [a remake] right now."

"Where did I finish?" asked Justin Long, submitting his Alvin voice from "Alvin and the Chipmunks" as a contender. "Can I do a late write-in vote? I just saw 'Taken' the other day, and Liam Neeson is the best badass movie action hero I've ever seen. It's just brutal. It was amazing. ... Not that Dirty Harry is a wuss. I mean, he's up there."

But what about the common folk? On the way out of our [article id="1604575"]New York Comic-Con panel[/article], we grabbed a couple film-loving geeks, and they shared strong opinions on our top 10 -- and those who were left out.

"Wolverine, big time," said one attendee. "Dirty Harry is like an old Wolverine ... and Batman is like a wannabe Clint Eastwood. He's trying too hard."

"I don't think they left too much out," another said. "Mentioning guys like [article id="1604428"]Lee Marvin[/article] and [article id="1604220"]William Holden[/article], that was right on point. All these new characters [owe them]."

"Ripley is definitely one of my favorite badasses of all time," added a female attendee. "She's pretty sweet."

But, believe it or not, there are some people out there who still haven't had their day made. "I'm so the wrong person!" blushed "He's Just Not That Into You" star Jennifer Connelly when we asked her about Dirty Harry's #1 ranking. "Can I be honest? I haven't really seen those films. It's so bad to admit, I know. [Clint] is awesome, but I haven't seen them."

One person who recently witnessed Clint's badass-ness up close and personal, however, was his "Gran Torino" co-star Cory Hardrict. "He's very nice, but when it's 'action!' he's real bad," said the 29-year-old co-star of what recently became Clint's highest-grossing film of all time. "He has this power, this magnetic power. If he tells you to sit down? You sit."

Many fans and critics have viewed Clint's "Gran Torino" character as the actor's final performance in his "Dirty" persona, and Hardrict agreed that Harry and Walt Kowalski aren't very far apart. "You see the rifle; it speaks for itself," he grinned. "I see the similarities."

And if we locked our top-two finalists in a room and had Ripley and Harry fight to the death for that top ranking? Well, "Big Love" star Ginnifer Goodwin said it would still be no contest. "Ripley is pretty badass," she grinned. "But Dirty Harry [would kill her], and that's why he won!"
