PARK CITY, Utah -- She's the most powerful mutant in the X-Men galaxy, but audiences have seen the last of the godlike Phoenix, according to Famke Janssen. "I don't know how many times we can kill the poor woman," the sultry 41-year-old grinned -- and for fans counting at home, they've killed her twice. "She's done." Even without Janssen's Jean Grey, the "X-Men" franchise is planning to continue with "Wolverine," a prequel starring Jean's razor-clawed forbidden lover. ...

Anna Faris has joined the cast of the Topher Grace flick "Kids in America", and will begin shooting the comedy/drama next month. "It's about three people -- a brother and sister and a friend -- and I'm the sister," Faris revealed to us Monday morning at the Sundance Film Festival. "It takes place in the '80s and is a real coming-of-age story. They steal a car and get into some trouble, but it's actually funny." Grace and Faris will play twins in the film -- non-identical, we assume -- with Faris' character out to help her sibling land the girl of his dreams during one long, crazy night. With production on "Kids" about to begin and Danny Masterson co-starring in Faris' Sundance comedy "Smiley Face," we couldn't help but wonder: Does she have a "That '70s Show" obsession? "I actually did a TV pilot with Ashton Kutcher back in the day," Faris laughed. "I'll have to start working with the girls." So stay tuned for inevitable news on an Anna Faris/ Mila Kunis mismatched-police-partners comedy, coming soon. ...

After being surrounded for the last several years by veteran actors stepping behind the camera, Christian Slater is making plans for his own directing debut. "I'm inspired by Emilio and Anthony being actor/directors," Slater said over the weekend, referring to his roles in Emilio Estevez's "Bobby" and Anthony Hopkins' Sundance mindbender "Slipstream". "So I've written something that I'm working on directing in the future. It's called 'Love Stories Are Too Violent for Me,' and it's an homage to a lot of films and a lot of actors that I love. It'll have a noir-esque vibe to it, but hopefully the energy it will have will be charming, fun and ride-able." Asked if he has any actors lined up yet, the "True Romance" star glanced across the room at Hopkins and shared a mutual laugh with the Oscar winner. "I have a few," he revealed. ...

It's got a timeless hook, that's for sure: "A kid, Shia LaBeouf, gets put under house arrest for assaulting his teacher -- 90 days," actor Aaron Yoo said of his upcoming film "Disturbia." "[LaBeouf's character] can't leave his house, and he starts spying on his neighborhood." Yoo, up at 10,000-feet elevation to promote the buzz-heavy Sundance sensation "Rocket Science," admits that the "Disturbia" might sound a bit familiar to some -- but if you're going to rip off a thriller, you might as well choose one of the best. "It's like 'Rear Window,' very thriller-esque," Yoo confessed, referring to the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock classic. "[LaBeouf] starts suspecting that maybe his neighbor, who is behind him, is a serial killer." Co-starring Carrie-Anne Moss and David Morse, the film has "got everything but the kitchen sink," Yoo reports -- including a little romance. "Shia is basically stuck in his house with his best friend, who is me. And so we're stuck there spying on the neighborhood, and he falls for the girl next door," said Yoo. "We somehow figure out how to get her over his house with us." Get your binoculars ready, because "Distubia" opens April 13. ...

Ever wonder what happened to that "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever filmed!" kid obsessed with the plastic bag in "American Beauty"? Well, after nearly a decade of indies and anonymity, steely-eyed actor Wes Bentley is ready to make his comeback next month with a high-profile superhero flick. "I play Blackheart, who is Ghost Rider's ultimate bad guy and the son of the devil," said the star, whose crime flick "Weirdsville" is earning raves at Slamdance down the street. "He's basically the baddest bad boy you could play, so I had a blast doing it." Working opposite Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes and Peter Fonda, Bentley said that the film's set had so much heavy-duty acting going on that you could almost forget it was a movie about a cursed biker with a flaming head. "We shot it in Australia and had a great time with the crew and cast. ... I've seen parts of it and it looks fantastic." The flick will light up theaters February 16. ...

Paul Rudd is fast becoming the hardest-working man in show business, with six films on the horizon for 2007. In town for Sundance, the newly realized improv star spoke excitedly about one of the more anticipated. " 'Knocked Up,' [a film by] Judd Apatow, coming out in June," the "Anchorman" sidekick enthused, adding that the cast is composed of "a lot of people from 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' and 'Freaks and Geeks," Apatow's previous works. "Knocked Up" follows "Grey's Anatomy" star Katherine Heigl, who gets pregnant after a one-night stand and tries dating the immature loser who she never thought she'd see again after the ill-advised evening. "Her sister is Leslie Mann," Rudd said of another "Virgin" veteran, "and I play [Mann's] husband. We have the marriage that you just don't want to have." The actor is at Sundance promoting his sketch-comedy flick "The Ten", and will next be seen in next month's "Reno: 911! Miami" as a Scarface-esque drug lord. ...

Heather Graham has never been one to shy away from portraying sexually adventurous women -- from Rollergirl in "Boogie Nights" to Austin Powers associate Felicity Shagwell -- but her next flick will take her into a realm that even she sees as new territory. "I have a movie called 'Gray Matters' that's coming out February 23," the blond beauty noted. "It's sort of a romantic comedy -- I play a girl, and my brother meets a woman and falls in love and wants to marry her, and then I meet her and fall in love with her too. And then I realize I'm gay, and I come out of the closet." Featuring a supporting cast of Sissy Spacek and other notables, the film marks the debut of writer/director Sue Kramer. "Molly Shannon is in it, and Bridget Moynahan, Alan Cumming and Tom Cavanagh," the veteran actress added. In the meantime, Sundance audiences are greeting Graham's New York drama "Adrift in Manhattan" with a response far warmer than the weather outside.
