Lindsay Lohan and Nick Cannon are the newest Hollywood power couple -- well, onscreen at least. The 25-year-old "Drumline" actor recently finished filming the assassination drama "Bobby" opposite Lohan, and he said that they have spent time on the set discussing an upcoming romantic comedy that would feature them more prominently. "We actually did work together, but it wasn't, like, one-on-one," Cannon reported of the star-packed drama due in November. "We were all in a scene together ... like, seven people running around." They hope to reunite soon for the untitled flick, which would cast Cannon as a blind man and Lohan as a fashion-savvy New Yorker. "[It's a] project with Lindsay that we are doing with Adam Sandler's company," he reported. "I don't really know where that is right now, because the scheduling was going all over the place. I think we have to do another rewrite or something like that, but it's still a funny idea." If the two movies take off, Cannon hopes that he and Lohan could be the next Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. "We could do 'You've Got Mail 2: You've Got Mo' Mail'!" ...

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are going for the jugular. The director and his favorite collaborator have signed on to bring the award-winning Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical "Sweeney Todd" to theaters, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The adaptation of the grisly tale will have Depp stepping into the role of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, who dispatches his clients with a slice across the throat and then serves their remains up in meat pies baked by his lover. It marks the sixth collaboration between Depp and Burton and the first stab at a major singing role in a film by Depp, who early in his career harbored dreams of musical stardom. The movie is slated to begin shooting in London in February, with a late 2007 release penciled in. ...

You might want to take one last look at Mark Wahlberg's mug when "Invincible" hits theaters next week, because in an upcoming role, he won't be able to rely on his leading-man good looks. "I get shot in the face at point-blank range in front of my house on Thanksgiving," the actor revealed while discussing "We Own the Night," a crime drama due in theaters next year. "It's more like 'The Godfather' than 'The Warriors,' " is how he described the recently wrapped flick about gun-toting brothers caught up with the Russian mafia. "I produced the film with James Gray, who directed me in 'The Yards,' and Joaquin Phoenix [is in it], and Robert Duvall plays my father, which is a dream come true to work with him," Wahlberg said. "[Gray] wrote a part for me, and whatever he wants me to do, I'm there." The cast also features Eva Mendes, and Wahlberg promised a flick that will leave viewers affected emotionally. "It's got a lot more emotion to it than violence." ...

"Veronica Mars" star Kristen Bell knows that her next film sounds really weird, but she insists that moviegoers will be impressed by the tender love story she shares with "Thumbsucker" star Lou Pucci. "I play Lou's kinda-girlfriend," she said of "Fifty Pills," a quirky comedy about a slacker who has to unload some drugs to pay his college tuition. "We're very attracted to each other, but he makes the choice to try to stay in school and sell the 50 pills of Ecstasy, and I vehemently disagree with that. I tell him that he is not who I thought he was. In the end, it becomes a little bit of a love story because I asked him to do the right thing ... and I end up forgiving him ultimately when he makes it up to me. It's really sweet. ... I'm sort of the moralistic voice of the movie." The film, which co-stars Michael Peña and Eddie Kaye Thomas, should hit theaters later this year. ...

Fans of Edward Norton know how he prefers taking on roles that require a lot of research, so it's no surprise that his current fascination is Tourette's syndrome. "I'm just writing the script at the moment," the Oscar-nominated actor said of "Motherless Brooklyn," a crime drama about a Tourette's-stricken detective that he'll write, direct and star in. Norton said he won't be furthering the overly used misconception that Tourette's sufferers curse uncontrollably. ...

With "Hairspray," "Dreamgirls" and others inspiring big-screen adaptations of popular musicals, MGM is determined to make the trend work both ways, with plans to open an ambitious slate of "screen-to-stage" productions. MGM on Stage began this month by bringing "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" to Hollywood's Pantages Theater, and has similarly opened the musical version of "Midnight Cowboy" in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" is preparing to open in Sydney, Australia, in October and the obscure 1970 Carl Reiner comedy "Where's Poppa?" is casting for a March release in Los Angeles. The most unusual, however, might be "Legally Blonde," a musical based on the Reese Witherspoon films about a ditzy sorority sister's adventures in the world of stuffy grown-ups. "Blonde" is planned to be pretty in pink this February in San Francisco followed by a Broadway engagement in April. As of press time, other possible MGM musicals such as "Judgment at Nuremberg" and "Windtalkers" could not be confirmed. ...

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's ... mutha-effin' Samuel L. Jackson? According to the 57-year-old actor, one of the few things he has left to accomplish in Hollywood is to fulfill a lifelong desire to become a superhero (we guess voicing Frozone in "The Incredibles" doesn't count). He's now trying to find a script. "I see [Marvel movie producer] Avi Arad a lot, because we live in the same neighborhood," Jackson said. "I express my interest in [working with him]. I always wanted to be Iron Man, because he was always like the rich dude who created this whole thing." He's not really kept as a superhero, he just creates stuff to make himself a superhero as a rich guy." Although an "Iron Man" film is on Marvel's fast-track, Jackson is doubtful that he'd ever be asked to play Tony Stark. The actor is, however, hopeful that Arad will listen to his pleas regarding another veteran Marvel hero with a film in development who was recently given a comic-book makeover to resemble none other than ... Samuel L. Jackson! "Nick Fury would be great," Jackson said of the hard-boiled S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. "I've been reading Nick Fury since when I was a kid. I collect comics. ... I'm kind of geeky." ...

Fast-rising actress Arielle Kebbel ("John Tucker Must Die," "The Grudge 2") is keeping in touch with her indie roots. She signed on to "Forever Strong," a new flick from Ryan Little, who directed her in a movie last year, "Outlaw Trail." Kebbel said "Strong," which co-stars "Sleepover" actor Sean Faris, is about a rebellious rugby player who finally learns to tap into his skills when he goes up against a team coached by his stern Dad (Neal McDonough of "Walking Tall"). "It's a true inspirational story about a rugby team," the actress beamed. "It's something I'm really proud to be working on." ...

Then maybe you're ready for the oddest visual you're likely to imagine all day, courtesy of Matt Dillon's description of a scene in "Factotum." "You'll see me in the raw in one scene, which is in a very funny sequence with Lili Taylor where she gives me crabs," Dillon promised, saying he does stop short of pulling a full-on Harvey Keitel. "No, you wouldn't have wanted to see me full-frontal, because I've contracted the crabs in that one, and she ties up a sumo diaper on me. Which I never thought I'd find as amusing in a film as I did."
