Melissa Etheridge Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Singer cancels tour dates to undergo surgery, looks forward to 'quick and full recovery.'

Melissa Etheridge has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has canceled her upcoming tour dates to undergo surgery.

The cancer was detected early, and the singer's doctor is optimistic about her recovery, according to a statement released by Etheridge's publicist.

Since it was detected, Etheridge, 43, has been receiving treatment. "I am fortunate to be under a wonderful doctor's care and thankful that this was caught early," the singer said in the statement.

Following surgery, Etheridge will recover at her Los Angeles home with her wife -- actress Tammy Lynn Michaels -- and children.

"I am looking forward to a quick and full recovery," she said.

The remaining 11 dates on Etheridge's tour -- including stops in Massachusetts, Quebec, Washington, D.C., New York, California and Arizona -- have been canceled, and refunds will be made available at the place where the tickets were purchased, according to Etheridge's publicist.
