Jessica Simpson Scores Daisy Duke Role

Singer will join Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville in her feature-film debut.

Jessica Simpson will be squeezing into Daisy Duke's hot pants after all, Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed Tuesday. The "Newlyweds" star has been cast in the Catherine Bach role for the upcoming big-screen remake of "The Dukes of Hazzard," which will mark her feature-film debut.

Simpson has been interested in the part for several months, meeting with producer Bill Gerber in February and screen-testing in August. Gerber sang Simpson's praises to People magazine earlier this year, deeming her, "young, moral, bright, gorgeous and Southern -- everything that Daisy is."

"I would love to be Daisy Duke," Simpson told MTV News in March (see [article id="1485551"]"Jessica, Britney May 'Duke' It Out Over Short Shorts"[/article]). "I think that would be so much fun, just to wear the shorts. I would get to have my own car. I think it would be a blast."

Joining Simpson in the film as her cousins Bo and Luke Duke will be Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville, whose participation was announced last week. Jay Chandrasekhar ("Arrested Development") is directing the adaptation.

There's no start date slated yet for shooting, but the film is projected to come out next year.

Simpson's acting experience -- other than guest spots on "That '70s Show" and "The Twilight Zone" -- had previously been limited to playing herself on "The Newlyweds" and "The Ashlee Simpson Show."
