St. Lunatics Set Free City Date; Nelly Lines Up Solo Tour

Brian McKnight guests on album, due June 5; 'Midwest Swing' will be first single.

As his debut, Country Grammar, continues to close in on sales of 6 million, Nelly hopes to carry that momentum over to his group effort with St. Lunatics.

The motley crew from Missouri — Nelly, Big Lee, Kyjuan, Murphy Lee and City Spud — will drop a single titled "Midwest Swing" in April and finally release its debut, Free City, on June 5.

The album title, which sounds like a local shout-out, is a plea by the collective to have St. Lunatic Lavell "City Spud" Webb, Nelly's little brother, released from prison. City, who can be heard on his sibling's current cut, "Ride Wit Me," was unable to appear in the video due to his incarceration. (Representatives for the group would not release specifics about City's imprisonment.)

City also missed out on most of the recording of Free City, though he does pop up on "Groovin Tonight," which features a guest appearance by R&B balladeer Brian McKnight. Jason "Jay E" Epperson — who produced most of Country Grammar, including "E.I." and the title track — handled the majority of the St. Lunatics album as well.

"The Lunatics album is four different personalities, flat out," Nelly said of the record. "That's what makes us what we are. It's a hot album. I think everyone will give it up for our individuality, and I think that's where a lot of groups go wrong. You got to let everybody in the group be individuals" (see [article id="1435987"]"Nelly's St. Lunatics Finish Recording Debut"[/article]).

Meanwhile, Nelly is set to hit the road with newcomer Alley Life for a college tour in April, while the fourth video from Country Grammar, "Batter Up," is scheduled to air in June (see [article id="1438627"]"Nelly Shoots 'Ride,' 'Batter' Videos Back-To-Back"[/article]).
