Newcomer Nelly Furtado will fly south from her native Canada to launch a U.S. tour next month in support of her debut album, Whoa, Nelly!
The "I'm Like a Bird" singer will kick off the trek on March 6 in Pontiac, Michigan, and proceed toward the West Coast before turning east. DreamWorks has confirmed dates through an April 7 stop in Boston.
Furtado's sophisticated songwriting, hip-hop-influenced vocal style and blend of pop, folk, dance and Latin styles has helped Whoa, Nelly! win steady critical acclaim since its release in the fall.
The Victoria, British Columbia, native leads the list of nominations for this year's Juno Awards, Canada's equivalent to the Grammys.
Her nods include Best Single, for "I'm Like a Bird," Best Pop Album, Best New Solo Artist and Best Songwriter. The awards ceremony will be staged on March 4 in Hamilton, Ontario.
