Q-Tip Plans "Amplified" Ascension, Wraps Film Project

Q-Tip will return to record stores this week with his new album, "Amplified," having already proven himself as a solo artist with his hit song "Vivrant Thing."

That track appeared on this past summer's "Violator: The Album" compilation, and the former A Tribe Called Quest member has just released a smoldering new cut, titled "Breathe & Stop," as the first official single from "Amplified."

Q-Tip talked about his recent successes in an interview with the MTV Radio Network, admitting he still had more goals for himself in the wake of A Tribe Called Quest's demise last year (see "Tribe Continues Its Long Goodbye").

"It feels good," Tip said, "'like, because I'm now an official [solo act], been [up], gone [down] and have come back ... [I'm] kind of rising out of the ashes. So it felt good, but I still have more ascension. I have to

ascend more, you know what I mean." [RealAudio]

"Amplified" was produced primarily by Q-Tip and guest vocalists on the album include Busta Rhymes and rocker Jonathan Davis from Korn.

Q-Tip has also wrapped production on his first major film project, "Prison Song," a movie he co-wrote and stars in (see "Q-Tip Set To Star In 'Prison Song' With Mary J. Blige, Fat Joe, Elvis Costello"). The film is due in theaters by summer 2000.
