Semisonic, Joan Osborne Pen New Tracks For Kevin Costner Film

Semisonic is preparing to head out on the road to open for the Barenaked Ladies for two weeks, and the Minneapolis group has just recorded a new song, "For Love of the Game," to serve as the title track of the upcoming Kevin Costner-Kelly Preston baseball flick of the same name.

Other artists contributing new material to the "For Love of the Game" soundtrack include Joan Osborne with "Baby Love," reggae superstar Shaggy with "Hope," while Lyle Lovett contributes "Summerwind."

The new Semisonic track marks the first new material from the Minneapolis band since the release of its 1998 breakthrough record, "Feeling Strangely Fine." Since then, Semisonic has contributed several of its catalogue tunes to various soundtracks, including "Never Been Kissed" and "10 Things I Hate About You."

After its stint on the Barenaked Ladies tour, Semisonic will continue to stretch its live legs with appearances at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron on September 3, the Nebraska State Fair

in Lincoln on September 4, and a hometown show at Minneapolis' Mill City Music Fest on September 5.
