Sinead O'Connor Cancels Concert After Death Threat

June 16 [7:55 EDT] -- Sinead O'Connor has pulled out of a scheduled concert in Jerusalem after receiving an anonymous death threat.

The singer was set to perform on June 21 at the request of The Jerusalem Link, a group of Israeli and Palestinian women working for peace. However, after learning about the death threat last Monday, O'Connor pulled out of the show.

In a statement released Friday, O'Connor said, "I am the mother of two young children; I will not do anything that could jeopardize their future, my own safety and the safety of the musicians and crew that work with me.

The Irish performer went on to say, "My music is about healing; my most recent record was purposely dedicated to the people of three war torn countries: Israel, Rwanda and Northern Ireland. I have nothing but the deepest love and respect for the peoples of both Palestine and Israel.

O'Connor's latest effort, an EP titled "Gospel Oak," turned up in stores last Tuesday, and the singer

herself performed at the Guinness Fleadh in New York City on Saturday.
