For those dreaming about a possible musical marriage between Oasis and former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, dream on.

A spokesperson for Creation Records, Oasis' British label, flatly denied the rumors to MTV News on Thursday, attributing talk of the possible Oasis-Marr union as a form of "the U.K. press' rampant attempts at wish fulfillment."

The spokesperson also compared the recent gossip to a sort of "rock and roll fantasy football," in which people tried to piece together "the ideal soccer team from the best available players."

The notion that Marr would join the band first surfaced in the U.K. paper "The Evening Standard" earlier this week, mere days after Oasis' rhythm guitarist, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, announced that he was leaving the band after eight years (see [article id="1432811"]"Oasis Parts Company With 'Bonehead'"[/article]).

A management representative for Marr refused to comment on "The Evening Standard" article and also declined

to comment on other reports that suggested that the guitarist might be working on a few tracks for Beck's new solo record. The same management group, Ignition, represents both Oasis and Johnny Marr.

According to the Creation rep, Oasis is hoping to finish recording its fourth album in the next month or so and isn't currently looking to find a new rhythm guitarist prior to its completion.

The new Oasis album is tentatively due out in early 2000.
