San Francisco To Host First Scratch DJ Conference

San Francisco will host the world's first-ever scratch DJ conference on July 1. Confirmed speakers and performers include two-time Disco Mix Club (DMC) champion DJ Craze, former DMC world champ QBert and Mix Master Mike of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, and DJ Flare, inventor of the "flare" scratch.

The festival aims to "continue the development of skratch music literacy," according a statement on the event's official Web site at www.skratchcon2000.com. The all-day seminar will consist of lectures, technique workshops, technological presentations, and one-on-one meetings with the DJs.

At this point in time, many people worldwide are unaware of this style of music, or carry a limited amount of knowledge on this art and culture," continues the statement. At a time when many popular rock/rap acts, including Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, and Kid Rock, have employed a DJ to add texture to their music, scratch

DJing is slowly but surely easing into mainstream view.

Skratchcon2000 is not a competition, although many of the featured speakers have won regional and national competitions with the DMC or the International Turntablist Federation (ITF).
