Medeski, Martin & Wood Beef Up Tour

After marking the release of their live acoustic album with a five-night stand in New York, the jazz-influenced jam trio Medeski, Martin & Wood will take its show on the road for a similarly stripped-down tour.

As we reported last month, the group will deliver its first live album, "Tonic," to stores on April 25, and will play five nights at New York's Angel Orensanz Center to christen the release (see "Medeski, Martin & Wood Launch Acoustic LP").

The acclaimed group will then set out on a U.S. tour that will see Medeski, Martin & Wood play acoustic dates at small theaters in 25 cities. The group will also play two electric shows at the Memphis Beale Street Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

When "Tonic" hits stores, fans will find four new songs ("Invocation," "Seven Deadlies," "Rise Up," and "Thaw") as well as four covers (Duke Ellington's "Afrique," John Coltrane's "Your Lady,"

Bud Powell's "Buster Rides Again," and Billy Roberts' "Hey Joe") recorded during the band's nine-night stand in New York last year.

In addition to this acoustic offering, the trio is also currently working on another plugged-in studio effort that should arrive this fall.
