Bob Marley fans have a lot to be cheerful about in the coming weeks: there's a tribute album, a tribute concert, and the re-release of a long out-of-print box set on the way. Now a new dance remix of Marley's "Sun Is Shining" will soon see U.S. release. The new remix of "Sun Is Shining" by the Ibiza All Stars and the Messy Boys should not be confused with another remix of the song by Funkstar De Luxe, which hit number three on the U.K. singles charts over the summer. The new Ibiza All Stars-Messy Boys single remixes a 1978 version of the song from the "Kaya" album, where the Funkstar De Luxe version remixes a 1970 recording that predates Marley's signing to Island Records. The new version will drop in stores on November 23. Happily, the remaining Marley projects in the works are not nearly this confusing. The long out-of-print Bob Marley 4-CD box set, "Songs Of Freedom," is due to be re-released on November 16 (see "Bob Marley
Box Set To Return To Stores"). On that same day, the Bob Marley tribute album, "Chant Down Babylon," featuring the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler singing the reggae legend's songs, will be in stores (see "Busta Rhymes, The Roots On Board For Marley Tribute"). Marley's sons Stephen (who produced the record), Julian, and Damian recorded "Kinky Reggae" for the album, and that track is available for preview in the liquid audio format at www.bobmarley.com. The download expires 30 days after the initial download; it will only be available for download until December 1. Next month, on December 4, a number of artists will descend on Oracabessa Bay, Jamaica, to perform at a Bob Marley tribute concert. Scheduled for the show are Erykah Badu, Sheryl Crow, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Sarah McLachlan, Busta Rhymes,
Jimmy Cliff, Tracy Chapman, and Seal, along with various members of the Marley family. More artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks (see "Lauryn Hill, Sarah McLachlan, Busta Rhymes To Play Marley Tribute Show"). TNT is sponsoring the "Bob Marley All-Star Tribute" as part of its TNT Masters Series, which has previously featured Burt Bacharach and Johnny Cash (see "Oasis' Noel Gallagher Bows Out Of Bacharach Tribute") and "Springsteen, Wyclef, U2, Matthews, More Come Out For Cash").The cable network plans to broadcast the show on December 19 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), with a DVD and VHS version of the concert slated for release a few weeks after the special first airs.
