L7 Preps New Album, Tour With Ministry

After parting ways with the folks at Warner Bros. Records, L7 is back with a new label, a new album, and a new tour kicking off next month.

The ladies will hook up with Bong Load Records to release their sixth album, "Slap Happy," on August 24 (see "L7 Forms Label With Bong Load Records, Preps New Album).

Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner, and Dee Plakas will then hit the road on August 15 in San Diego for a tour that runs through mid-September. Part of the trek will see the band opening a string of dates for Ministry as that band makes the rounds in support of the recently released "Dark Side of the Spoon."

For the tour, the band will employ the services of bassist Janis Tanaka, formerly of the San Francisco outfit Stone Fox. The position opened up after Gail Greenwood (formerly of Belly) left the band after touring behind its last Warner Bros. release, 1997's "The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum."

Last year, the band

hooked up with Man's Ruin Records just long enough to issue the live album, "L7: Omaha To Osaka" (see "L7 Live Album, Documentary Due In December").
