Iron Maiden Taps Halford, Queensr&#255che For Tour

Iron Maiden has lined up its first round of North American touring behind its recently released "Brave New World" and has landed some fellow heavy metal mainstays for the bill.

When the band kicks off its tour north of the border on August 1, Maiden will get support from former Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford and Queensrÿche. After a handful of Canadian dates, the tour will hit U.S. soil on August 5 with a show at New York's Madison Square Garden.

[article id="1445969"]"The Garden is just going to be awesome,"[/article] Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson told MTV News recently. [article id="1445969"]"I mean, we are coming with the biggest show we've had for ages." [RealVideo][/article]

Part of that overall sense of bigness is the return of Halford, who is currently readying the full-length solo effort "Resurrection.

"He's

just made

this amazing record," Dickinson said of Halford. "He is totally back with the whole Priest 'Screaming For Vengeance' thing. He's singing like a bird, albeit a tortured, twisted bird." [RealVideo]

For its part, Queensrÿche will be flaunting the upcoming release of the band's greatest-hits package, due to hit stores next week.

And Maiden plans to sweeten the pot with a suitably elaborate stage show as well. "We can't get away with making a record like ['Brave New World'] and not doing a huge stage show. 'Wicker Man?' Yes. Flames? Yes. Human sacrifice? Well, I don't know about that. Vestal virgins? Yes, if they'll fit… and Eddie, of course." [RealVideo]
