Former rap superstar MC Hammer is close to signing a deal with a radio station to do interview segments during San Francisco 49ers' pre-game shows.

The "San Francisco Chronicle" reports that local station KGO Radio is in negotiations with Hammer, a.k.a. Stanley Burrell, to do "man-on-the-street" style segments interviewing football players and fans, and that he's expected to be on the air when the NFL season starts this fall.

Hammer, 36, has been a well-known figure on the sports scene over the years. He was once a batboy for baseball's Oakland A's and was a familiar sight on the sidelines at 49ers games, hanging with buddies including top players Jerry Rice and Steve Young. He was equally close to Deion Sanders, at one point proclaiming himself the football star's agent, and also promoted boxer Evander Holyfield.

The high-living Hammer, who earned an estimated $33 million in 1991, was forced to declare bankruptcy in 1996 in a hail of lawsuits (see [article id="1429911"]"Hammer Time On House Sale"[/article]).

There's still no word on when (or if) "War Chest: Turn of the Century," the album Hammer discussed with the MTV Radio Network last April which features collaborations with the late Tupac Shakur, will be issued (see [article id="1429908"]"New MC Hammer Album To Feature Unreleased Tupac Collaborations"[/article]).
