Vedder, DiFranco, Harper To Play NYC Nader Fundraiser

Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Ani DiFranco, and Ben Harper have all agreed to perform at an October 13 rally in New York City for Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader.

Vedder, who will play an acoustic set at the Madison Square Garden event, also performed at a September 23 fundraiser in Seattle (see [article id="1433034"]"Pearl Jam's Vedder Rallies For Ralph Nader"[/article]), and has donated money to the candidate's campaign.

It mystifies me that this country will send troops to other countries in the name of preserving or achieving democracy, and yet we can't seem to find a way to give candidates like Ralph Nader a voice in our own Presidential debates," Vedder wrote in a statement.

Pearl Jam has just launched the second leg of its North American tour in support of its newest studio LP, "Binaural," recently released 25 double live albums of concerts recorded during the band's summer tour of Europe (see [article id="1433039"]"Pearl Jam Sets Release Date For Live Discs"[/article]).

Vedder will be able to squeeze the Nader rally into the tour's itinerary, as Pearl Jam has an off day between its scheduled shows on October 12 in Kansas City, Missouri and on October 14 in Houston.

DiFranco and Harper aren't slated to launch their respective fall tours until after the October 13 event.
