The Roots, Dead Prez, Mos Def Hook Up For Joint Tour

The Roots, Common, Dead Prez, and Mos Def are among the artists slated to head out on the road in October and November as part of an "Okayplayer" tour that will also feature Dilated Peoples, Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek, Jill Scott, Jaguar, and Bilal Oliver.

According to tour organizers, each of the three-hour shows will be built around a jam session in which The Roots will provide the musical accompaniment while each of the acts performs its own respective material or collaborates with other performers on the bill.

The outing takes its name from okayplayer.com, the online community that plays host to the likes of The Roots, Common, D'Angelo, and others; in the spirit of the site, the tour will include an interactive element featuring activity stations set up with laptop computers and community-based educational information.

The exact itinerary is still being hammered out for the "Okayplayer" outing,

although the tour is tentatively slated to play at least 20 cities during its two-month run, including stops in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, as well as a host of college towns.
