Chris Cornell Speaks About Solo Life

It's been two years since Seattle's Soundgarden called it quits, and now former frontman Chris Cornell is about to release his first solo album, the bluesy and bravely experimental "Euphoria Morning.

While the album does include some mid-tempo rockers, Cornell's new work is surprisingly mellow, ranging from the sweet but sly Beatles influence of the first single, "Can't Change Me," [RealAudio] to "Wave Goodbye," a soulful tribute to the late singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley.

As Cornell recently related to MTV News' Chris Connelly, making a solo record shouldn't equate glorified ego-tripping.

[article id="1442025"]"It's not a situation to be overindulgent, I don't think,"[/article] Cornell told Connelly, [article id="1442025"]"and sometimes solo artists do that, especially if they've been in a band for a long time and they felt as if they couldn't be

as creatively

expressive as they wanted to be. And the next thing you know, they have oboe things coming out, and the video with the horse... so I tried not to do that. I just wanted to make a record to listen to. Not like jewelry for me to wear, like little songs on my ears and stuff." [RealVideo][/article]

Cornell will be delivering his new material on a five-city mini-tour which kicks off on September 13 in Boston, just prior to the September 21 release of "Euphoria Morning" (see [article id="1427505"]"Chris Cornell To Preview Solo Record On Short Tour"[/article]).
