A Tribe Called Quest's Phife On Joining Beck, Jakob Dylan And Others For "Rugrats" Soundtrack

After announcing in August that A Tribe Called Quest planned to put an end the group after wrapping its current tour, strong first-week sales of the group's swan-song album, "The Love Movement," demonstrated that the group will apparently be bowing out while still a hip-hop commercial force.

But before year's end, Quest rapper Phife will turn up one more time in a somewhat unexpected place, as part of an ensemble singing on "This World Is Something Strange To Me," along with such artists as Beck, Jakob Dylan, Lenny Kravitz, the B-52's, Lisa Loeb and Patti Smith.

[article id="1439306"]"It was a last minute thing,"[/article] Phife explained to MTV News last month -- just after he had been asked to participate in the track. [article id="1439306"]"The first time I heard about it was yesterday as a matter of fact, maybe 24 hours ago. When my manager asked me if I'd like to do it, I said, 'Yeah, sure, why not?' Cause I've watched the show a lot with my little

brother and I'm a big fan, you know, so ... it was a no brainer if I wanted to do it or not cause it was there and [I said] 'I'm here to do it.'" [28.8 RealVideo][/article]

The soundtrack for the "Rugrats" film is slated for release November 3, and also features a collaboration between Blackstreet, Mase and Mya on "Take Me There," Busta Rhymes on "On Your Marks, Get Set, Ready, Go!" and No Doubt on "She Throws Her Toys Around," a song written by Elvis Costello.
