Real Country

Singer/songwriter Darryl Worley's debut, Hard Rain Don't Last, is a confident, personal set that reveals heartaches, strength and the singer's blue-collar upbringing. Worley writes without concern for contemporary, radio-friendly country, instead preferring to join the ranks of rising neo-traditionalists such as Brad Paisley.

From the album's first single "When You Need My Love" (RealAudio excerpt), a sweet, simple ballad that currently resides in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, to the straightforward drive of "A Good Day To Run," Worley conjures such honky-tonk heroes as Merle Haggard and Bob Wills.

The western-swing shuffle "Too Many Pockets" (RealAudio excerpt), ironically, is probably too country for country radio. But honest love pleas "Who's Gonna Get Me Over You," "Is It Just Us?" and the anthem of resilience, "Second Wind" (RealAudio excerpt) may have a chance.

Worley makes a solid showing on this first effort and carries the traditionalist torch proud with real songs about real people. It's country you can sink your teeth into.
