News Flash: The Beautiful South Gets Ugly On Single

With a single entitled "Don't Marry Her (Fuck Me)," you can be sure The Beautiful South will turn some heads with their latest album, Blue is the Colour (Sept. 23).

Sung by Jacqueline Abbott, the track (which will likely be edited for radio play) is one of several melancholy ballads on which the previously underused chanteuse comes into her own in the band started by ex-Housemartins Paul Heaton.

Sticking to a mostly mid-tempo, melancholy mood, the CD, produced by Jon Kelly (Tori Amos), features 10 original dirgy cuts, as well as a cover of Bobby Darin's "Artificial Flowers." -- ATN staff report [Tues., Aug. 26, 1997, 9 a.m. PST]
