The list of incredibly talented stars joining the cast of NBC’s Hairspray Live! just keeps getting longer.
The live television musical, set to air in December, just recruited two up-and-coming Disney Channel stars: Dove Cameron (Disney’s Liv & Maddie and DCOM Descendants) and Garrett Clayton (Teen Beach Movie), who will play the roles of Amber Von Tussle and Link Larkin, respectively. The actors announced the news Monday (August 1) on Twitter.
Cameron and Clayton join Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle, Ariana Grande rocking pigtails as Penny Pingleton, and Derek Hough as TV host Corny Collins in the literal dream cast of Hairspray Live! — no big deal. Cameron will be reuniting with her Descendants onscreen mom Kristin Chenoweth, who will take on the role of Amber’s mom, Velma Von Tussle.
Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein will reprise his Broadway role as Edna Turnblad, while Martin Short is set to play Wilbur Turnblad, and newcomer Maddie Baillio takes the lead as Tracy Turnblad. With a cast like this, expectations are high. Unfortunately, Hairspray Live! doesn’t air until December 7, so we will have to creep all of their Instagram and Snapchat accounts for rehearsal footage until then.
