Here's Why You Won't See Captain Marvel In 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron'

Marvel's Kevin Feige explains his reasoning.

Don't get your hopes up to see new superhero Captain Marvel introduced in the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron." No, it's not misdirection, there are no sly, "Hi, I'm Carol" lines thrown in there -- she's not in it. However, that wasn't always the case.

At a press day ahead of the film's release, Marvel chief Kevin Feige told MTV News that Captain Marvel was, "in an early draft of the script, yes."

The new superhero, who is slated for a solo film in November 2018, would have appeared briefly in a key sequence toward the end of the film, but was cut for story reasons. Mainly: the character hasn't been cast yet, nor has her look been solidified.

"It didn't feel like the time," Feige said. "We didn't want to introduce her fully formed flying in a costume before you knew who she was or how she came to be."

Right now, Feige said, the studio is focused on finding the writers for the Captain Marvel film, "and we're very close." As for casting, the process is in its "very early days."

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" hits theaters May 1.
