Chris Martin And Lianne La Havas Prove That Prince’s Songs Work Perfectly As Duets
Frontman Chris Martin and tour opener Lianne La Havas teamed up for a touching cover of “Sometimes It Snows In April” at Telia Parken. Anchored only by La Havas’s acoustic guitar, the gentle rendition of Prince’s song highlighted just how skillful the late icon was at crafting melodies.
“Sometimes It Snows In April” works beautifully as a duet, it turns out, especially when one half of that duet has a voice like La Havas.
In April, less than a week after Prince’s death, D’Angelo paid tribute by covering “Sometimes It Snows In April” with Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum on the Tonight Show. Martin also covered “Raspberry Beret” with a band of teenage musicians that same week.
In the two months since Prince’s passing, dozens of musicians have stepped up to pay tribute. It’s a testament to his songwriting that these performances sound new every time.
