Three young women try to get back on their feet after being down and out.
Same here. I don't even mess with credit cards anymore......except the one I have for absolute emergencies!
I don't understand why Ashley didn't just do the payment plan instead of filing for bankruptcy. $419 seems reasonable. Especially if she could up her hours to fulltime or find a second job. She says she wants to move out, but hardly any landlord is going to accept a tennant with horrible credit who filed for bankruptcy. Her dad would probably have more respect for her if she just stayed at home and did the payment plan and saved her money, rather than filing for bankruptcy just so she can move out and potentially **** up again.
Danielle wants to her big break in dancing? Don't you have to be talented for that?
It is reasonable but she probably just don't have the money and it would just be easier to take the hit. Not a choice I would make but I guess it was what was best for her.
I pay cash or use my debit card for everything. If I don't have the cash then I don't need it. I have one credit card and that is for emergencies only, like sudden car repairs. I got a credit card at 18 and make a huge mistake with it. I went crazy with the shopping and maxed it out. Could not afford it and it took forever to pay it off. After that lesson I started using my own cash for everything and its been great ever since.
Yeah I'll say. Can't even understand it.
Most of that debt was a mortgage on her home. That isn't looked at the same way as credit card debt is. She was right in saying that if she could just get on her feet a bit, she would actually be able to make some money off of it. Investing in a home is just that - AN INVESTMENT, whereas credit card debt is just plain old debt. I was really proud of her, she actually seemed to have a head on her shoulders - working hard, taking as many hours as she could - not holding out for her 'dream' job and letting the debt get worse, budgeting, doing without and buying inexpensive food. Unlike the other girls, she also wasn't spending money on stupid fake nails that are a complete waste of money when you are in debt as much as they were - without an actual HOME to show for it! The only splurge she took was dance class, and it was to keep up her skill level so that eventually she COULD perhaps follow her dreams of making a living as a dancer. That girl was the only responsible one of the bunch.
What no one seems to realize is that she probably wouldn't have to live with her parents for 4 years. She is currently only working 1 part-time job. If she got off her behind and got another job, that would be more money coming in to pay down the debt faster. OR, she could get a FULL-TIME job. It may not be exactly what she wants to do in the long run, but if you declare bankruptcy, it's going to be pretty hard to find a decent, well-paying job if your resume shows some low-skill, part-time employment (job hopping) and a bankruptcy - it doesn't show that she's very trustworthy or dependable. It was never mentioned if she was laid off or had been fired, that would be interesting to know. Based on her immature attitude towards everything, I'm guessing fired. She was such brat to her parents, when they took her back in to their home and were trying to help her. She's just a snotty, immature brat who was looking for the easy way out. Declaring bankruptcy and already going to go eat out in a nice-looking (read: expensive) restaurant. Figures.
The one girl doesn't even have an account, so thats why she can't. The other girl has no money in her account to clear it. Which alot of banks require.
my mom doesn't have but $25 in her account, and she cashes her check at the bank for $3.00....don't get why they can't cash their checks at a bank?
It's a tough lesson. You can't get something for nothing, and 2 out of 3 of these girls have yet to learn anything. They continue spending needlesly on ridiculous items, and one can't bear the thought of staying with her parents for 40+ months in order to avoid bankruptcy. Then you have the other having her mom do her own resume. They need to grow up and take on the responsibility because mom and dad will not be there forever. SMH
Thousands of dollars in debt and still splurging on luxuries like tanning and shopping....these girls need to get their f-ing priorities straight. This is what's wrong with the economy.
I can't believe her minimum is 646 dollars with 4,414 dollars. When I had 2,000 dollars on my card, my minimum was only 30 dollars. I know thats more then half less then she had but geez.
Credit Cards are only good to have in emergency situations, there are too many people like these girls that use them for everything and anything which is never good.
Me too, and I agree. Even though living with your parents for almost 4 years would suck for some people, i'd rather honestly do that and have a good clean credit instead of having horrible credit for 7 to even 10 years. I think she just looked at the right this moment, getting rid of it, but not in the long run with having not so good credit for that many years.
I think most of that is her house/condo she bought when she had the money and job, until she lost that job, but yeah thats alot.
172,000 in debt....GEEZ how does that even happen? i was shocked that she wasn't the one filing for bankruptcy!
@Kara i honestly dont remember writing this .. i'm guessing i was drunk 'AF 0.o
