On this episode of True Life, we follow Leigh Anne, Raini and Kate as they try to balance their southern values with the modern world they live in.
thats why the show refers to them as southern belles and not southern girls. Belles were the rich type who had deb balls and soirees etc. a southern girl and a southern belle can be two different things. not all the time but in this case yes
I second guess some here whom claim to be Southern. Southern belles are debutantes. One from the south should know that. Of course many don't live like this. Life varies from person to person even amongst belles.000aI feel for Raini and Leigh Anne. Raini's mother lives vicariously through her daughter yet is not supportive. The boyfriend applies pressure when he becomes unhappy with pageants. A lost Leigh Anne. “My daddy says, 'boys lie'.” Not the best words for a first date. Her father shouldn't compare daughters. Kate is a fake. That's not to say she isn't a Southern belle. The independent modern persona is.
I'm a southern Belle but I am not like these girls lol. It takes every type of belle I think. These are a little over zealous lol!
Those two women put so much emphasis on such frivolous values. Their lives begin and end revolving around pleasing others and having a pleasant exterior, so sad
Not everything in the south is like that though, you can't categorize the whole south based off what most/some do, or your use to. Such as family being the most important aspect to "southern" life, There really is no "southern" life as not everyone follows it or goes by what you call southern life. Nor is it always a more simple life. Not everything is the same in the south, nor the north. You'd find some places with simpler living in the north then some places in the south.
I'm from MS, on the coast, and most people on the coast don't have a southern accent... thankfully.
I agree with you, though I always thought the term "Southern belles" was reserved for the rich-type girls. I live in the North and I'd never assume that all Southern girls were like this!
Alot of people do, there's nothing wrong with it, as long as your doing it for the right reasons and not jumping right into it just for the sake of being married young.
Would've been cool to see a guy version of the "Southern Belle".
Aww Leigh Ann and her cats XD so cute!
I would love to get married when i'm 24
kate is my kinda girl lol shes exactly like me!
did anybody see those two leave the bar and drive away i really hope that jarrett girl wasnt drinking
Dude,, Calm down with the hairspray.. Geeze.. lol.
I don't think this episode represents what Southerners really are. These girls grew up with rich parents. Their lives are different than most others in the south or the north. In the south, life is just simpler. There's less going on to worry about, less unimportant things to consider important. Family is THE number one most important aspect of Southern life. Most of us "Southern Belles" are more like Kate. Outdoorsy, love the land, love life, and most of all family. I can relate with her. A divorce in a close-knit family in a small town, is a shock to the system. You can be completely unprepared, because you're so unaware of it. It's not the norm.
It's not a north or south thing at all. But the north and south are different. In a lot of ways, life is simpler in the south and busier in the north. It's just a different style of living. I've never acted like these girls in this episode. I think it's got to do with money, not geographical location.
Rani could single-handedly keep hairspray manufacturers in business
Im 24 and from the north and I do feel the same as Leigh Anne, I have trouble meeting the right man, and fear that I will end up alone.
I'm from Louisiana and a proud Southern Belle. I wear my pearls, tease my hair, have my perfect gentleman, and always mind my manners. I totally relate to these girls, especially Leigh Anne. I'm 19 and already feel the pressure to get engaged because about 80% of my peers are.
Its not different at all, except for the accents. i've lived in both places. I don't know where MTV found these girls, must be a filthy rich thing, not a north or south thing.
