Emily and Kayliah are two young ladies whose health and careers are being jeopardized by the strange habits they are struggling to quit.
Lol thanks for this post, it gave me a really good laugh.
when kayliah is sucking on the nail file it looks like she ate the popsicle and couldn't stop and now is eating the stick...
Emily ever heard of Xanax..?and kayliah teeth don't itch, that's your gums saying BRUSH ME!!! hmmm, lol she said her habit is ALITTLE weird, then she says you know how people chew on tooth picks yeah okay, but people don't eatem and swallow them dummy. Kayliah needs to put the fork down, err emery board's down. geez that's how they cope with stress. what happened to good ole drugs doing the trick.. =)
So glad to hear you're doing better!
Thank you that means alot. Im the girl who pulled out her hair. I am doing better now :)
Hey it's me Emily, the girl in the episode. Its my anxiety that stresses me. not so much that ne thing in particular. but im doing btter now :)
I really wanted to watch this episode, I tried twice, but failed because it made me hurt to watch. I can't imagine being in their shoes, I hope that each of the girls are doing well or better now, considering I never got to the end.
is kayliah lying when she says the reason she started eating nail files, was because her teeth were itchy?! can teeth be itchy?
Oh the emery board one! It makes my teeth hurt just watching it. yikes!
i am 29 and i havehad it for 20 years
Hey, guys. I've dealt with trichotillomania since I was 8--just like you, Shannon. I pulled my eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair on my scalp. For the longest time, I had bald patches and no eyelashes. It was dreadful to feel so out of control. It took almost 10 years of struggling with this disorder, but at the age of 17, I beat it. And I'm damned glad I did. Those first few weeks were the hardest, but I got through it and I know you can too. It seems impossible and I've had my share of failures, where I've tried and tried, but always fell back into the pit of pulling, but I eventually crawled my way out of it. It comes down to determination. One piece of advice I can offer is OCCUPY yourself. INVEST yourself in something that you enjoy. Don't think of hair pulling as a disorder; think of it as a bad habit you can break. I did this on my own, but I suggest talking to a psychologist, specifically one who specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This disorder is indeed related to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which CBT successfully treats. I would suggest staying away from medication as a treatment for trichotillomania, but, of course, this decision is ultimately up to you and your psychiatrist. 000a000aAlso, note that your family doctor is only trained to deal with clinical disorders in a general sense and cannot offer the treatment and expertise that a psychologist or psychiatrist can. Often they will give you poor or improper guidance, which may even be mere opinion, such as in your case, Mallory. The idea that you (Mallory) "think" you have trich but you don't is absurd. It's possible to feign a disorder, but I highly doubt that's what you're doing. (If you meant that you think you have OCD, then his claim is warranted since you don't exhibit those symptoms. Trich is not currently categorized on the OCD spectrum.) Witnessing your mother's obsessive-compulsive behavior may have contributed to your disorder, but it is likely that OCD-related genes inherited from your mother, triggered by life stressors, play quite a large role. I'm not surprised that your doctor is ill-informed, but he or she should have recommended you to a psychologist. 000a000aI post this in hopes of inspiring those with trich. You're not alone and this is not impossible. If you have any questions or just want to talk, let me know. I'm happy to help.
Its clear whats going on. And if you cant see that then i'd say your the only one passing judgment on people watching this. This has some effect believe it or not. It has to. Besides its filmed and followed. So later they'll say she died eating these, or she overcame her weakness and quit. Either way, im so sick of people not allowing people's criticism. its a good thing. Whats not good is the people its meant for. Im sure people would love to hear their hair is nice or they lost 20lbs, but that is not always the case. Sometimes you just have to hear the truth.
Has CBT been helping Trich?
Yes I've been told by professionals that Trich is an OCD. I was prescribed Zolof thinking that it would help with the OCD, needless to say it didn't. Your Dr's response is very disturbing. I dream of one day being pull free. It's been years since I've seeked professional help for pulling. I'm hoping 'will power' will eventually kick in.. even tho so far hasn't. Out of all the outside remedies hipnothepy worked best.. i was pull free for 3 days was on. Best of luck to you.
ive had trichotilomania since I was in elementary school. ive been on lithium for about 15 years and it helps SOOO MUCH. I hope she gets help it is so hard to have this disorder and not many people understand it .
I have trich too. I have tried explaining to my doctor about it and the constantly shrug me off and tell me to resist the urge to pull. I told them I felt like it was a OCD type deal, because at the time I didn't know that this disorder had a name. My Mom has OCD but it is about germs....my doctor told me that since I have seen my Mom had OCD my whole life that I just think I have it, but the bald spots on my head say otherwise. I'm still trying to seek the proper help that I need because now I know that I cannot do this alone .It is nice to know i'm not alone. I wish you guys the best.
You're retarded, there are tons of things.
Who is to say what's stressful or not for these girls? We don't know what goes on behind the scenes in their lives. Or what they went through as children. It's so easy to sit behind a keyboard and pass all sorts of judgments when it doesn't affect you.
What I don't get is where the girl with the nail file eating habit gets the money to get her nails done? It doesn't seem like anyone in her family works at all. Plus they have two young kids... I don't get it.
thats awesome!!you should adde on facebook im the girl from the show, Emily.
