Catch up with Neil and see what he has to say about his experience during the filming of his True Life episode.
I never did when I was in rehab. They only thing that happened to me was I had fluid build up in my lungs.
Neil I was so impressed with your story. I know that God is helping you recover your life and I saw in your interview with the show that you have come so far. Feel free to message me on Facebook if you like. I would love to follow your progress. Take care and God Bless you. Dave
you are such a strong person Neil. u are an inpiration to so many people,( if not everyone) to keep on fighting and never give up. love you, Neil :)
If you can, find a caregiver support group. It's helped me and my family immensely. Your son sounds like he is doing well and progressing, that is great! We survivors are different people after the injury. It's like we're little gems, with facets that nobody has seen yet (including ourselves). Keep up the positive attitude, keep encouraging your son. Don't be afraid to laugh with us.
You have an awesome attitude!
It might also help if you can find a caregiver's support group. I know that I drove my caregiver crazy, and for him to be able to talk/compare notes about things to other caregivers has been a great help to us both. I see that Adam's mom has replied to your post, which is great (she seems to be a wonderfully fantastic lady).
I am so sorry to hear about your son's set back. Yes Adam experienced sympathetic storming and it was very scary. Adam's head injury was closed which is very different that what I am assume your son has experienced, however I was told that he also could experience the excess cerebral fluid build up that I believe you are describing. This can happen for years after the head injury. Keep positive and see all the good things that he can do. Adam couldn't give a thumbs up for at least 7 months after the accident. Your son will bounce back. Keep talking with him, encourage him, tell him that you are so proud of him and he will be doing the things he was doing again. Happy Mothers Day, I am sure you feel the same as I do, I couldn't be prouder than to say I am Adam's MOM.
Hi Brooke I have TBI.I'm a 22year old women. Feel free to ask me anything..
God bless you! It was nice hearing your story.
Two years ago I woke up in a wheel chair.......................before that I sold real estate for over 25 years ..............with my apartment by the pool..........driving my little Audie...........and helping people (on the side) doing reflexology....my conscious was clear because I wasn't charging for the Holistic Healing so I felt i was doing what God wanted me to do. I helped people with migraine headaches, major back pain, infirtility, avoid knee surgery , stroke, hearing and eye problems even MS....but one day a lady called me and said someone told her I could help her daddy who had been in a comma for over 2 months......he had a heart attack while sitting on his Harley(he wasn't riding)...fell backwards and hit his head... he survived the heart attack but never woke up........my first thought was" Comma No Way ! " then I thought " If you have my number then I will go and try! ".........................When I walked in the room his whole family was sitting there...he was in a care unit with a tube in his stomach and a tube in his chest.....the doctors had basically given up and said "Just wait and see what happens."....My first prayer was "God please don't let me make a fool of myself!"....Then I prayed "Never mind God.....just help Me help this man please!" ......after 15 minutes of reflexology he suddenly crossed his arms.............his whole family gasped and so did I.... !!!!!!!! (LOL)after 10 more minutes he drew up his legs ......everybody was crying and laughing at the same time. To make a long story short within 6 weeks he was awake in a wheel chair learning how to walk and talk....................Do you know what i did?.............................................I went back to real estate ! (LOL)....Not long after that I woke up in a wheel chair......... because I fell off a dock fishing............how is that for God getting my attention???(LOL) The doctors said I would never walk again without major surgery.........I said " WATCH ME !"....I told a friend what to do because I had no strength in my hands( I couldn't even find my nose or stand ...much less walk )after 3 treatments i was able to do it myself. I went from a wheel chair..........to a 4 legged walker...to a cane......... .to ME ! I fell in June and went dancing in September ! I no longer sell real estate I do Holistic Healing ........God has my attention ! I am here if anyone wants my help ! God Bless Betty Sittig
I would like to offer my help !
Has anyone had a set back after going to a inpatient rehab, doing things like washing youe face putting on your own socks, sitting up with help, playing connect four (game), doing hand shakes and waveing hello to someone that walked in your room.....to NOTHING!? My son was in rehab 2 1/2 weeks ago and then developed fluid build up in his head where the skull is still missing. He was rushed back to the nearest ER and had a external shunt put in his head to drain the fluid and over these last 2 weeks, he does nothing but blink eyes for yes and no and barely does a thumbs up. He is going through "sympathetic storming" for the past 2 1/2 weeks. Has anyone experienced a set back like this or " sympathetic storming"?
My 26 year old son suffered a TBI Aug 8, 2009. It thus far has been the single worst time of my life, he doesn't remember much of that time. Luckily he is recovering well. Although he has set backs in different areas, he has fortunately been able to return to his job (which his boss held for him), and is living in his own apartment. He lives in a different area of Colorado than I, but we talk on the phone everyday. His Dad and stepmother do live fairly close to him so they check on him everyday. He's is different, but the same, continues to have problems with "processing" info, but I thank God everyday for the progress he has made and for all the wonderful people that saved his life and helped him to get to where he is today. I just hope this show helps peope to see how TBI affects the victims, their families, and friends. Thank you for this show!!
A Head Injury Comes With A Life Sentence The Only Diagnosis For A Brain Injury Is....HOPE I sustained my first Brain Injury 31 years ago in 1979 at age 21. I then developed Epilepsy that went undiagnosed for the next 11 years until 1990. But in 1988 I took a granmal seizure while working up on a deck 6 feet above a cement floor which should have killed me. The undisgnosed epilepsy was causing me to Hallucinate and dry heave due to a form of seizure Complex Partial Seizures, doctors have estimated that I took over 50,000 of this form of siezure from 1979 to 1990. I cannot even list all that I have survived and what has been done to my body, trust me you would not believe it. I published a book concerning my life titled " It's All In Your Head " which was named by my wife of 30 years now, It may be the most Incerdible Story that you may ever read. Like the saying goes " I wish I knew then what I know now !! Blaine
Neil, keep fighting. You are an inspiration. I am on all the time because I work from home, hit me up if you want to. I used to ride motos and now realize why my mother hated it. Glad to see the improvement during the show. Cant wait to see the progress in the follow up.
I am so glad to see that people are trying to educate others about TBI. I experienced a TBI four years ago. Being a nurse I had no idea what it was, and neither did my other nursing friends. I would really like to have contect with other TBI survivors, so please get in touch with me!!
I thought that the show touched on many different points about what it's like to live with a TBI. As a TBI survivor myself, I would love an oppurtunity to share some of my trials and struggles with everyone as well! If anyone knows how I can get in touch with any of the show's producers, please let know!
what an awesome show! my brother was in an accident almost 3 years ago and suffered a TBI as well as physical injuries. he's come so far, & this episode of true life is so encouraging and inspiring!
WOW great show! I was in tears. My son is in the hospital with TBI. He was hit by a car 6 weeks ago. I hope the gentlemen from this show continue to recover and heal. They were all an inspiration. God bless!
