They've effectively destroyed not only the characters of Inbetweeners but the scenes as well. I understand they're trying to make their own spin on it, but it doesn't work. For them to do it well, they'd have to change the characters entirely; they've already made a mockery of them so why even bother using them? The UK version exudes the feeling that yes, these boys are friends, although they aren't always the nicest to each other. I don't even know what's going on in this series. They seem like they've been friends for a long time, which shouldn't be the case as Will is a new student. 000a000aOne thing I will give them credit for is Simon's character. He bears the most resemblance to UK Simon, and I don't just mean physically. The face expressions he makes are very close to the ones Simon would do, as he always found something to freak out or get excited about. Other than his character, this version is a failure. It's not funny and they make every sexual joke seem crude, whereas in the UK version they joked about it fluidly so it wasn't unnatural to them.000a000aNeil is less oblivious than the UK version, but more idiotic and possibly retarded. With Neil in the UK version, you had a very oblivious character who acted very stupid but not in a crass manner. American Neil is just retarded--there is no other way to put it. I don't know if their point in creating him this way was to make light of the stereotype that Americans are retarded, but Neil is just over the top stupid to the point where his low intelligence level is not funny anymore but awkward.000a000aI will not say much about Jay. I loved him to death in the UK Version; he was filthy, a pseudo-sexual deviant, and the biggest liar you'll ever see. American Jay is almost the same, but less funny and more foul. I will also say this: Jay's character was more believable due to the fact that he is attractive. It might seem unfair to say this but it's true. Everything about the American version of Jay is askew.000a000aWill's character doesn't show too much in this version. He's not very enthusiastic and doesn't do much of anything. His supposed higher intellect of the UK version is lost here and you just have another random boy. I would enjoy to see Will be more witty and essentially off-putting to other people due to his awkwardness. I know it's a tall order, and I'm not expecting sparkling, but the least they could do is give it a go.000a000aI will repeat that I KNOW this is a remake and things will be different. But if you're going to take the episode plots and dialogue nearly verbatim, they could at least attempt to get the characters correct. The problem is also in the switch from a setting from Europe to the United States, but that doesn't affect much other than their accents, slang (the best slang you'll ever hear, and it's lost in this series), and the places they go to. I can't look at this show objectively, so I must say it's personally awful. They also took one of their best lines, "Bus *******", out of the show.
