I think that this sing wasn't about kids not needing an education. What it was really about was that kids don't need to conform. Just watch the video. The kids are dressed the same, lined up, and marching, like the military. This sing was about not conforming, and being an individual. That was what Pink Floyd themselves were about. They were creative and different and innovative for their time. And in this song that is what they expressed. Kids ( and people in general) don't need to conform to the general masses. They need to be themselves, individuals, creative in their own way, and innovative in their own thoughts. In the video, the little boy was different and creative eith his poetry, and the teacher made fun of him for it and made the conformed kids laugh at him. He was different and innovative, the other kids were conformed to the forced masses. That was the message. Never conform! Be yourself!
