Since Siobhan is the only reason I'm watching this show, I must say that I really liked her performance. For someone who had been getting sent through the ringer for her high voice and looks, she kept the latter but basically pulled back on the former. It was simply a pleasant performance that showed she can sing high notes and NOT "scream" them, showed the "tender side" that everyone's gushing all over Casey for doing, and made her voice seem far more palatable for a global audience. She's been criticized for being too extreme and gimmicky with her singing, so when she really pulls back (by her standards, which she had never done up to this point; that's an idea, sir,) she's suddenly too tepid. I guess this performance felt like something she'd put on an album instead of being a single, and at this stage of the game, that's what I like to see and hear. Edit: Oh, and Katie was horrible. Her voiced wavered far too much, she looked so nervous; like she pissed all over herself on stage, and she demonstrated just as much of the "pitchyness" that had irked the judges before. Maybe because she wasn't pretending to be a "soul sister" that she's being received well? Basically, I think you could create a Top 4 with Casey, Siobhan, Crystal, and...Tim Urban in any order, and forget the rest.
I am just excited to see David Archuleta perform tonight! Can we vote for him again?
I knew Casey had potential, and he has never sucked, but tonight he won me over! First time I was inclined to vote this season! That was so heartfelt and raw it left me with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes! I actually was digging the vibrato! The judges have really messed with Siobhan's head, I hope Adam convinces her to just go with her gut and do her own thing despite what the judges tell her. I think they have broken her spirit. Crystal has seemed to have played all her cards and is starting to lose steam, don't know what else she can bring, she is starting to become boring and predictable. Katie actually was pretty good with Hey Jude which surprised me a lot! And it was Tims best performance to date. Lee went a little to big which kind of turned me off, especially with the audience "interaction" and bagpipes!
I agree completely Jim. There weren't any true train wrecks tonight, but I definitely wanted Aaron and Siobhan to make it stop -- oddly for the same reason. They both sounded so nasal. Easily my favorite of the night was Casey. I will be purchasing that song on iTunes. The only thing I don't like is that icky vibrato which reminds me of an earlier contestant (Carmen Rasmussen?). I guess I would send Andrew or Aaron home tonight because really I've only liked one performance from each of them since the semi-finals began.
Oh, and I had the same reaction to the Lynche mob thing, whaaaa????
Right on, bro. I think the judges had the tainted food tho, what were they hearing? Tho I didn't really like Katie much. Yeah, it was less robotic, but Kris was almost crying during his version, and Katie didn't have a fraction of that emotion, so yeah. We had 3 songs tonight that Kris Allen did sooo much better, it was kinda sad. (Referring to Kris' current Come Together, which he just kills in concert again and again.) Sadder still that the other two were by my usual faves, Crystal and Lee. Lee tried to get it goin' on towards the end, but even deathly ill Kris hit more notes and gave it more life (on the Idol Tour).
I was hard on Crystal on Twitter and in my video. I'll explain why I was so bummed by her perf tonight in my blog, which I'm writing now...........................
Tim was fun. The bagpipes were hysterical (especially since they appeared during a Lee performance)! Siobhan was awful. Everyone else I've forgotten already.
I don't like Katie Stevens but did like her performance tonight. There was none of the pageant fakery she usually displays. Tim has a good voice, and this was a good song for him but I'll leave the voting for him to VFTW. Crystal was sick so I give her a pass, although I liked her performance. My favorite by FAR...Casey! He's always been one of my top 3, but tonight he was my #1.
I actually totally loved Crystal and Siobhan this week, and wasn't that impressed with Katie. But I agree with you on everyone else. Did you even mention Mike this week? Whatever, I wasn't a fan. I want Andrew to go home this week, even though that will break up the (supposedly) epic Andrew/Lee bromance. #dannygokeybabies!
I agree Jim - Casey had a great night with a great choice of song - loved the performance. Still a huge Crystal fan though, cold and sore throat and all she is talented. For me, only 2 redeeming features this year. Can't wait to see what Adam Lambert does with them when he mentors next week.
