Fans (and James Montgomery) don't appear to be thrilled with the special-effects-heavy fairy tale. (11.24.09)
Well, that's your opinion James, because I loved it. It is great to see new ideas from the band like this one. I think this video is a masterpiece, and it's one of the best ones they've made.
I actually differ on your views. This video is actually very sentimental and it does have heart in it. It may not be as obvious or as performance based as their past videos, but like they said they want to step it up and mature. The concept of the video relates to the literal meaning of the song. Hayley is obviously Hayley, the little girl plays Hayley as a child. Her child form lets her imagination run wild and it eventually consumes her until she just keeps getting deeper and deeper into her fantasies. However, once the little girl realizes that her dreams aren't real she tries to leave, but the only way to get rid of the fairy tales is to get rid of the small girl which is why Hayley let her die. It symbolized the older hayley letting go of her past by burying the little girl that believed in the fairy tale.
