Kris Allen Tops 'Idol' Top Three

While his version of OneRepublic's "Apologize" was bland, his cover of Kanye West's "Heartless" redeemed him and then some ... even if Ryan Seacrest didn't think so. (5.12.09)

I don't think Kris Allen did K. West's Heartless it sounded more like The Fray's version without the piano. I've been listening to the Fray since Matt G said he liked them and Kris Allen's song was a dead ringer for it. Go back and listen to the Fray's version. Now then first song best to me was Adam Lamberts not Kris Allen or Danny Gokey. I agree Adam Lambert outsung the others by a mile. Second song however I really thought because of the back up singer singing so loud that Adam Lamberts begining of his second song wasn't so strong. However he redeemed himself in the end. I liked Danny's ballad a lot and his exit song was really stronger tonight. I did not like Kris Allen's second song. I felt he rushed it. I do expect Kris Allen to win the contest though. The media are setting this up to be a light versus dark, good vs. evil, christian vs gothic thing. Which is funny because I don't see Adam Lambert as an evil devil worshiper but if you read other blogs on other web site people are calling that poor kid some really monsterous things. People are threatening him with bodily injury and it is just sad. Jim is there anything you can do about that? The power of the press and all. I think it is sad people don't even know these people and yet some of the bloggers want to...well I'm not even going to repeat some of those death threats on Adam Lambert. I just hope that kid is safe and AI can protect him.

I think that you should have written Kris' cover of The Fray's cover of "Heartless". Even if Kris won't give them credit, and the AI judges don't have a clue, at least I expect MTV to know better.

Yeah, I agree, Kris was the best of the night. I miss David Cook. But I don't really because he's on my radio every hour LOL!

Did not enjoy either one of Danny's performances but that has been constant for me through out the show. Kris has been a non entity to me through out the show also, I am not surprised he made it to the finally though since normally a annoying person makes it there. Both of his performances were boring as always to me. His voice has never been interesting and his facial expressions/movements are distracting/ugly. Alot of my opinions are based off the kind of music I am drawen to and neither Danny or Kris would ever fit that bill. I had hoped for a Allison/Adam final 2 since they are by far the most talented singers but America had different plans. Adam's performances were amazing as usual. I've had my favorites through out this season of Adam's performances but have never been disappointed. I think the reason why he is so interesting is his ability to sound so distinct but at the same time sound like 4 different people, depending on the song. It leaves no room for boredom. Hope Adam wins, he deserves it the most due to hard work, perseverance, and pure talent!!!!

I did like Kris' performance of Heartless. I hope he makes it to next week. Adam is my man. After the show I felt a little confused? What just happened? Was worried about Adam, BUT, re-watched the performances a few times. Now I see what a brilliant performance One was (you have to know the lyrics to understand his emotions singing it). I am sure Bono will be proud. This is a hugely emotionally charged song and has different meanings for different people. Beautiful! Cryin was great, except that,technically, the backup singer was turned up too loud. Adams voice is unbelievable. I hope to see it with Adam #1 and Kris 1st runnerup! Just my opinion!

Kris Allen all the way! He is so humble, has no ego and I really hope america votes him through!! I myself voted for him 120 times last night!! I actually liked the first performance to but I totally understood what the judges meant by making it your own and for his second performance WOW, he took huge risk by singing 'heartless' and I loved it best performance of the night for sure!!! I also liked adams first song 'one' minus the screaming that he does...judges call it a note but its very annoying in my opinion!!! Round 1 ADAM Round 2 KRIS overall Kris!!!

Kris is the same whiny white boy music that is everywhere. I can't tell one from another these days. It is so great to have music from Adam that sounds different. Yeah for the rest of us.

Adam is AMAZING@! He is so talented and has entertained us all season. He has earned the Idol crown. Vote Adam@! I am also proud of Adam because I work for the VA and while Adam was home he went to Miramar to sing for the troops and their families. He also visited the kids at his high school drama and signing departments and went back to the performing arts center where he started performing. He is truly the most talented and should win American Idol Vote Adam!

I agree with both Miss Bea (it took a lot of work to find your video -- they shouldn't bury it like this!) and your assessment. This was the first time I ever voted for American Idol, but I felt I had to vote for Kris. His rendition of Heartless was like hearing the song for the first time -- I like Kanye's version, but this seemed much closer to the spirit of the song. And I am tired of Adam's yowling -- he may be an Idol, but he's not my idol.

First of all, Jim Cantiello, you are hilarious. Totally love your "Idol In 60 Seconds". My only complaint is that it's so buried on the MTV site that it's difficult to find. Anyway, totally agree with your assessment of Kris Allen. Felt that the judges were overly gooey to Adam. He's a very talented young man, but I'm really tired of hearing the same vocal nuances every week and seeing the same facial expressions. Very theatrical and predictable but doesn't seem authentic to me. I can see Adam doing well in Vegas or Broadway, not so much as a recording artist. I think Kris Allen is a fresh face and has the biggest chance of having a long career in the recording industry. Just my 2 cents... Miss B.

checking in from Hawaii ... show doesn't air here for another 15 minutes; but I was able to see all the performances on-line. Kris did very well and I'm not surprised; Adam and Kris are my favs; but ... Adam (to me) was the best! Aloha!
