Protesters of Prop 8 say gay marriage is, more than anything, a civil-rights issue. (11.7.08)
really?? it's 2009.. how are we still fighting about this.. it's making me lose faith in humanity.. we are all the same no matter who we love.. love isn't a choice..
I'm sorry you see it that way dan350zr- but thats not the case. No one is being greedy. All we ask for is equal rights and we will call out the hypocricy when we see it. The churches call for and FUNDED prop 8- that goes AGAINST the constitution of separating church and state. The church is entitled to their belifs. Again, no one is telling them what to believe! We simply want equal rights. Its not more complicated than that. The Church has NO RIGHT to dictate how people should live and fund money against those who don't agree with them.
Was flipping channels and came across "The View" (no im not gay), and they were talking about prop 8, it seems if it prop 8 didn't pass then gay's could sue ministers/priests for not performing gay marriage and churches could lose there tax exemption if they wouldn't let gay's marry inside there church... I didn't know this.. Seems gay's got greedy and wanted more then just the right to get married, they wanted to go after the churches to... Found it interesting...
dan350zr - Thanks for voting no on 8 and yes, I agree with you- many will use the "choice" issue as an excuse, or explanation. It will continue to be debated- and that's the beauty of freedom of speech. But think about it, why would someone CHOOSE to be in a relationship that causes them to be hated and considered sinners? That makes no sense. I'm not telling anyone what they should believe and I don't want to be told what I should believe. No one has the right to take moral authority over someone else. We separated church and state for that reason.
dd714, there's a difference between someone's sex and the color over there skin vs someone's choice of life style, and I think the people who voted yes on prop 8 look at it this way. I know some will say they were born gay so its not a life style choice, but thats debatable... Personally I voted no on 8 because I really don't care about the issue, I say bring on "Gay Divorce Court" on the CW network...
To Christine1972 - with all due respect- why should we just get over it? If women just got "over it" they would never have been allowed to vote. If the black community just got "over it" Obama would never been elected- AND- he would never even be born because it was once considered a sin to be part of an interracial relationship. So, sorry, we won't just get over it. We fight for what we believe in. I hope you will fight for what you believe in too- even if its against me.
hahaha in response to my comment below about California basically being useless pertaining to the election... at least they are good for something!
what gets me so confused is, california is such a liberal state, voting for obama by so much, and yet they went conservative. it just shows how obama won due to things that do NOT matter, like age, popularity, looks and color.
They need to get over it. We voted. They don't like the way we voted so they want to bully Ca. into changing our vote. If you don't like it....MOVE!!!! I hate Celebrity bullies.
prop 8 suck. keep on fighting. do not give up.
