actually chicken nugget it seems that they would not have sent her to the mental ward because when she got to the hospital they would see that she didn't overdose, that she simply was choking and broke her arm. They would probably monitor her. I mean it's not making light of *******. And it's mtv, nothing is "real"

This is not "real". If someone attempted *******, then they would not be thrown back into school life. They are sent to a mental ward at a hospital or an institution for at least 90 days of recovery work with therapists. And while some teen groups might look down on the behaviour as "attention-seeking" most people realize that that simply is not so and want to pray and talk and help others who are not "weird" but suffering from mental illness. This show is disrespectful and does not show how serious this sort of situation really is.
