I've never seen the UK version. But I am totally in love with the Us version. I agree that if you saw the UK version first you would probably think it was better and the Us version is a rip-off. But all the Skins Us haters out there probably haven't even watched it.
Skins America isn't an exact copy of the original. There's plenty of new content, new storylines and new characters. Tea's episode, for example, will be completely fresh content. And if the show makes it to a second season, all of the content will be original. SAYS showrunner/series creator Bryan Elsley SO HA!

Ok, I watch a LOT of BBC America and was just in the UK in late Oct. Most US shows are direct copies, word for word. For Example, The Office. I can't watch the US version. Another one is Top Gear. Terrible on the History Channel. One more for effect: Couplings. Lasted one summer season over here compared to several in the UK. While I see themes (drug dealer owed $$; sunken vehicle, etc.), it isn't word for word. YES, we should have our own ideas but after two shows, I like it. I like the actors. So far, very well done except for the obvious filming in Toronto while claimed they are American kids. SKINS are gang? OK, one meaning. This US version said skins were papers, never heard that. I always thought that SKINS was metaphoric, as in stripping the characters to their soul. That's why the UK version always used names for episodes, partially done here with "Tony." See the UK "Effy." It starts with Effy with no make-up and wrapped in her towel, stripped of exterior "glamor" or facade. That's what SKINS means to me. Just an observation. I am patiently waiting for Season 4 on Netflix of the UK version. Yes, it's better but it seems that this version jumped in very quickly, fast start and my wife and will watch. The only other MTV2 show I watch is the LFL, in part because we have a team here in Orlando.

It's one of the only real shows on television these days. There are a lot of teenagers who can relate to this series. DON'T TAKE IT OFF THE AIR. for the love of God.
I actually like the whole unprofessional thing. it gives a more authentic feel to the show and proves that its that much more different than anything out there. I think their only using the uk version as a model of what they want to start out with in the show, then do whatever they want as time goes on. i mean, if they made the same exact show over again it wouldnt have a point. so i agree with u sadiat, dont knock it till u try it. this show is gonna be awesome as the season goes on.

why dont u guys give this show a chance, it is supposed to have young script writers and unprofessional actors. No show is original. Dont judge a book by its cover, dont knock it till u try it. e.t.c.
