Alexa Chung chats with Michelle Collins about Kid Rock's hate for Twitter, Twilight's bad-ass replacement, Brolan and Fox's awkward make-out, Jude Law's one-night-stand and the perks of all-over-deodorant.
Comments I found that I agree with from http://www.thingamababy.com/baby/2009/07/babyglutton.html : Jenn says: You don’t really need to buy a special doll to promote breastfeeding. All it took was for my 2yo daughter to watch me breastfeed her baby sister and she was hooked. I would often find my 2yo perched up on the couch, shirt lifted up, baby being held up to her belly button (apparently in her 2yo mind that’s where the good stuff comes from) for a quick snack. Neither of my girls ever took a bottle, so they never thought to stick one in their baby’s mouth, it was always “breastfed”. We bought my son a doll, took the bottle away from it and hopefully when he sees me nurse our newest baby, he’ll try to nurse his baby. We even bought him a sling so he can carry his baby around with him while mommy wears the new baby. July 13th, 2009 at 10:56 am Candi says: Like putting pasties on a 10 year old? Are you serious? Why is it okay for a girl to mimic bottlefeeding a baby but not okay for a girl to mimic breastfeeding a baby? Just as a side note, you’re right, Jenn. My two year old happily nurses all her dolls and stuffed animals as thats what children do– MIMIC THEIR PARENTS! It’s probably unnecessary to buy this doll but its nice to see one on the market that doesn’t automatically come with a bottle and a pacifier. There is nothing sexual about a mother feeding a child, and there is nothing sexual about a child pretending to feed a baby doll.
Well, is it sick for kids to pretend to be good mothers? Because there is no way you can say it's okay for dolls to promote bottle feeding - when breastfeeding is not ONLY natural, but it has so many benefits for infants that cannot be reproduced by ANY man-made bottle formula. Not to mention in countries where children are starving and free mother's milk saves their lives and is naturally sterile! If Alexa Chung is just trying to make teenage girls who watch her show think breastfeeding is gross - she did a good job of that! If she is actually trying to argue that it is wrong for little girls to pretend breastfeeding in public - I can agree with that - but if they want to pretend on their own time in private... what the hell is wrong with that?? Seriously!!
