Emma hopes to break through gender and racial barriers by being MADE into a rapper.
and why are these kids getting ****** at her when she said her parents lived in the ghetto? None of my black friends ever stepped foot in a ghetto. It's beyond racist to assume a particular race lives in a bad environment just because of their skin color. My black friends are sorority girls, have high standards, and high paying jobs. This is beyond angering. It was a bunch of angry kids trying to find a way to finally bash the white girl, and the teacher was egging it on. I'd fire her.
(Marshall Mthers) is white so get over RACE
They shouldn't treat her like that the best rapper on earth (Marshall Mathers) so get over race!!!! OKAY
Michigan is where I'm from I go to Annn arbor all the TIME
Go Emma!! Way to stand up for yourself! The origins of Rock and Roll can be traced back to Yoruba traditions in West Africa as well (among other contributions from folk and bluegrass) .... Does this mean that as a white person, I can't understand rock and roll either? this class and teacher are ridiculous. Rather than be a role model and a TEACHER, that teacher set her up for attack. Makes me so angry
I watched this episode in Sweden and I got totally annoyed by the behavior of bullying people around Emma. The teacher is terrible!! This kind of behavior and attitude towards students is not appropriate!! Emma good luck!!
I watched this episode in Sweden and I got totally annoyed by the behavior of bullying people around Emma. The teacher is terrible!! ***!! This kind of behavior and attitude towards students is not appropriate!! Emma good luck!!

the people in this episode that are against emma are getting annoying as **** CHILL the F.uck out and ENJOY the MUSIC
i know man....black people are saying stop racism and everything but when i see alot of things like this happen....the teacher and the students were being all racist and stuff towards her like ***?
this school os so hard on her like god damn she just wants to be a rapper....there was nothing racist about it but all the people especially the teacher and most of the black people are turning it into a racist situation....ctfo and let her do her thing damn why are they getting so upset about it. Out of all the people black people shouldn't focus so much on stereotypes but they did
she was hot. i give her props for standing up for herself
That humanities teacher mishandled the situation. She made me cringe. When someone says something that you disagree with - especially when you are a teacher and the person you disagree with is a student - you should sit them down and calmly explain yourselves. However, I think it is ironic so many people on this page are raging against racism by making racist comments. It is also really sad. People who are so hateful on this site are cowards - you would never say this stuff away from a computer.
"There's black rockers and country singers so what's wrong with with a white rapper?" I think this question really points out why "appropriation without education" sucks. When even a black person fails to realize that rock and roll evolved largely from musical styles heavily influenced by African Americans like Jazz & Blues and had pioneers like BB King, Chuck Berry & Little Richard it's depressing. The music industry aims to sell, not educate.
FAIL. Hip Hop's 4 elements originated/ developed in the South Bronx among African Americans and Latinos (Puerto Rican immigrants primarily). Since Africans were brought to the Americas AND the Caribbean as slaves, both of these groups would have had some cultural connection to West Africa. Therefore a tradition of oral storytelling/ drumming or "beat making" would have evolved in these communities. That's the connection. The teacher handled the situation badly, but she knew her stuff.
rap originated in the south bronx. NOT west africa. the teacher needs to do her history more than emma
Why was that teacher making it into this war of the races? All Emma wanted to do was break the stereotype. All the things her teacher said were completely unnecessary. Why should one race have a monopoly on one type of music?
Look... I'm black and I'm on Emma's side. I can understand the teacher wanting her to know a little bit more about the history of rap but she shouldn't pick her to pieces about why she thinks whites shouldn't rap. That's just wrong. There's black rockers and country singers so what's wrong with with a white rapper? I'm would gladly wager that none of those students nor that billigerent teacher know that Eminem was crowned the king of rap...
