@robert - ok so what are you a movie expert lol you can't even spell simple ass words correctly but yet you're writing a dissertation lol you wasted your time by saying you watched the film with an open mind only to follow it up by saying you already dislike Kanye lol
This is by far the best critique of Runaway that I have read to date! I could not agree more. I left a similar post in the comments section of the Kanye/Michael Jackson article. Glad to see there is someone else out there that refuses to drink the Kool Aid.
I feel the same way, It sucked bad!
A-10 V-10.... ON A TORRENT SCALE
I support the move for Ye to build an epic event for music lovers everywhere. I love the idea and thought the execution was nice. He is in it for people who can appreciate all forms of art. Those people that love all types of genres. He does a magnificant job of blending all forms of music and video and still keep it true to his style and creative ability. I'm not sure why people are so crictical. I don't see 'you' doing anything that would come close to Ye on his worst day. I read a post that tried to present both the positive and the negative and weighed heavily on the things that were not right. How about you go direct a video an provide classic music and lets see what we say about you. At the end of the day it is a matter of oppinion; however, some oppinions should be kept silent. No one man should have all this power. Kanye should when it comes to his music. Take the stage Ye!
KANYE WEST IS HORRIBLE AS ACTOR AND FILM DIRECTOR. THE STORY MADE NO SENSE. I DIDNT GET IT. WHAT DOES POP CULTURE HAVE TO DO WITH THIS AT ALL. NONE OF THE SCENES WERE INSYNC. HE CANT SING AND THE WORDS CAME OUT NOT CLEAR
So after all the hype I checked it out. Right, where do I start... The opening scene (after that God awful narration and special effects) with the car driving through the woodland, that was a really strong scene and interesting framing of the car in relation to its surroundings, from that point on this film was weak. In so many ways... The cinematography was pretty solid through out, but let down by cardboard "acting" the lead female (Phoenix) was attractive, but beyond that she had zero acting ability. It was even worse when Kanye and her shared that dialogue scene (@ 26:33) it was really very difficult to watch. The phoenix costume was questionable, nice idea just poorly executed in terms of quality. Where did that metal breast plate come from in the last scene when she is flying home? It didn't even fit correctly and was moving about the whole time, for a scene like that to be powerful distractions like that should be avoided. Should have re-shot and had her look like she did in the rest of the film, even though that malfunctioned at points and came away from the skin. With so many talented prosthetic artists in the industry I was surprised at how weak that looked. The wings on the other hand were well made and looked good. I touched on the acting, but to comment more; I felt Kanye shouldn't have tried dialog, as it was awkward and really unnatural. Silence would have been a much better option and more powerful. The power of silence goes a long way in film and lets the audience form their own opinion. the special effects were on par with Flash Gorden, if a nostalgic look was wanted then it should have been made more obvious. I think the effects and pyrotechnics were just a way of flashing some cash, if a bit more thought went into those scenes they may have been more effective? The dinner scene with its racial divide was thought provoking, though after finding out they were aesthetic decisions, I'm not sure if I can believe that with the KKK reference in the scene before. That apparently was just a comment on Pop culture in some way? If it was, that didn't come through even when watching it again with that in mind. Even with his attempt to post rationalise it all, it still sounds a bit sketchy. He should let the audience interpret it how they want, which is how true Art House films just are. I'm not sure if many of you are still reading this, but I would just like to finish up by saying I watched this film with an open mind and really gave it a chance even though my preconception was to hate it after all the pompous things Kanye has done and said in the past. My preconception was unfortunately right and this is nothing more then an attempt to gain acceptance into high culture and come across like a genius, when frankly he is not when you compare his work to the likes of someone like Quentin Dupieux (Mr Oizo) a true artist in the field of music and film. over all I would rate it 4 out of 10. The 4 being for the fact he tried it, but it didnt work out. It was in my humble opinion nothing more then a big budget student film and I really don't understand how some people think this is amazing and ground breaking, it really could have been and I would have liked it to have been, but it just isn't. There are so many talented people out there producing much higher quality work on next to no budget. I hope this film acts as a catalyst for you to want to discover more films of this nature and realise there is a world of amazing people doing amazing things, far more amazing then Kanye West. and before you start hating on me, I am entitled to my opinion much as you are entitled to yours.
love it! kanye did an amazing job..i love the whole thing...watched it alomst 4 times already! the music is great, the symbolism is great, his acting was ok lol...overall best film from the music industry of all time! lol but i wonder if he knows that wen birds mate they jus pop it n leave they actually one of the few animals that dnt hav fun wit it...lol mayb thats y she left! lol...but anyway kanye did awsome ..luv em even after that whole taylor thing...shez dumb...kanye forever!
I really like this video and Kanye. He is a very unique individual. I like how he stands out as an artist, he does not go with the trend to please the younger generation. I like it that he uses a lot of symbolism and abstract ideas to get people to look and listen to his music in more ways then one. We need more music to get us to think beyond what mainstream artist rap about these days. I bet his album will be good to listen to considering that the songs in the video were good. I think he should keep making creative videos, they are very captivating to audiences of all that are fans or not fans of Kanye.
